What is Pandharpur Wari?

Pandharpur Wari (Ashadhi Wari) is an annual foot pilgrimage in which lakhs of Warkari devotees walk behind the palkhis (palanquins) carrying the padukas of Sant Dnyaneshwar and Sant Tukaram from Alandi and Dehu respectively, covering roughly 250 km to reach the Vitthal Rukmini temple in Pandharpur by Ashadhi Ekadashi.

When is Ashadhi Ekadashi in 2026?

Ashadhi Ekadashi falls on Saturday, 25 July 2026. The Dnyaneshwar and Tukaram palkhis are scheduled to reach Pandharpur on 24 July 2026, a day ahead of the main Ekadashi observance.

What is a dindi?

A dindi is a group of Warkari devotees, often from the same village, caste group, or community, who walk together as an organized troupe within a larger palkhi procession. The modern dindi system was organized by Haibatrao Baba in the early 1800s.
